Director Statement
Connecting with your inner self is a need that every human being desires. In an increasingly interconnected society, paradoxically, it seems we're slowly losing the connection with ourselves and the world around us. We live in a time of haste, increasing social pressure and loneliness. The focus is almost always on everyone else except ourselves. By focusing on the external, we hope it gives us the happiness we're seeking for. It's a constant effort to please others or to be who we think we should be in order to receive love, respect, or appreciation.
We always try to make sense of things by identifying patterns. And in that pattern making proclivity we tend the other; we’re this, they’re that; this makes sense, this doesn’t. It belies the truth. We are pitting us against ourselves and by doing so alienating ourselves from the beauty of our innate humanity. But what is truly necessary to live a fulfilled existence?
How can we mine meaning and be elevated by our own self and the environment?
Therefore we have to look inwards.
This documentary illustrates one of the multifaceted ways of introspection. Both Gino's personal history and his life as an artist are shaped by the use of plant medicines and music. It gave him the awakening of finding introspection, peace, reconciliation with the past and connection with nature.
